The entire Benziger Family portfolio of wine is certified sustainable, organic or Biodynamic®. The Benziger Family farms with the philosophy that nurturing the earth fosters the finest wine. The most distinctive, authentic wine follows agricultural, winemaking and business practices that are good for the earth and the vine, good for the farm worker and the farmer, and good for customers. The Benziger family has been growing grapes on Sonoma Mountain for close to thirty years. Mike Benziger and his wife Mary discovered this vineyard in the late seventies and purchased the property with the help of Mike’s parents Bruno and Helen. It soon became a real family affair when brothers Joe, Bob and Jerry joined the business, followed by sister Patsy and her husband Tim. As the youngest siblings, Kathy and Chris moved along with the family and spent their high school years as New York transplants in a Sonoma vineyard. Today, more than two-dozen Benzigers live on and around the estate winery in Sonoma County, and eight family members actively produce and sell Benziger wines. Benziger's Sonoma Mountain estate was the first certified Biodynamic vineyard in Napa and Sonoma. Mark Burningham, VP of Winegrowing and the only non-Benziger Partner in the company, built a sustainable farming program for all Benziger’s growers. Since 2007, Stellar Certification Services has audited Benziger’s winemaking program and inspected all the vineyards that hold its certification.
The Benziger family is committed to this philosophy now and for generations to come.
