On a carriage drawn by two magnificent draft horses, travel through the vines and winding lanes to tastings at three boutique wineries in the Alexander Valley. Enjoy the relaxed pace, beautiful scenery and world-class wines, while leaving the traffic far behind.
The tour begins with a visit to the wine cave at Alexander Valley Vineyards. Stroll through gothic vaulted chambers filled with oak casks aging in the unchanging coolness of the earth. After some barrel sampling, you'll board the waiting carriage and set off on a 3-1/2 hour cross-country adventure through creeks and over hill and dale to tastings at the stellar Hanna and Soda Rock wineries. Along the way, our guests relax and socialize, while enjoying spectacular vistas and a sumptuous, gourmet lunch.
The wineries you'll visit are family-owned gems with award-winning wines and distinctive architecture. They produce diverse varietals, such as crisp Sauvignon Blancs and buttery Chardonnays, spicy old vine Zinfandels and hearty Cabernet Sauvignons, all of which are served with a casual and gracious hospitality.
The Alexander Valley is a world away from the crowds and bus tours of nearby wine regions. Views from the carriage range from close-ups of grapes on the vine to spectacular panoramas; from oak-studded coastal mountains, to lush vineyards along the Russian River. Our carriage has cushioned seats and a smooth, comfortable ride with a fringed shade top. You can even reach out and pick grapes from the vines along the narrow lanes without spilling a drop from your wine glass.
Your coachman/guide is informative and entertaining, with an insider's view of local history, little known facts, the lifecycle of the vines and the winemaking process.
Our gentle steeds, Cody and Cheyenne, are the charismatic stars of the tour, and spending time with them will delight your soul and is sure to be a highlight of your vacation.
This is more than a wine tour. It's a romantic and thrilling adventure with an intimate backstage look into the world of California wine!
