Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery to be established in Sonoma County’s Dry Creek Valley following Prohibition. Founded in 1972, by David S. Stare, our small family owned winery is notable for handcrafting a complete spectrum of wines, including limited release and vineyard-designated bottlings. Our pioneering role in the Dry Creek Valley continues today under the leadership of the second generation. Never complacent, our family makes classically styled wines that define their varietal category. Stylistic goals for each varietal drive all decisions, from vineyard and clonal selections through the entire vinification and cellaring process. Our winery's diversity of style stems from 200 acres of extensive estate vineyards that stretch throughout the Dry Creek Valley and Russian River Valley appellations. Because each vineyard site harbors a distinct soil type and microclimate, grape varieties are planted that are best suited to the terrain in which they are grown. At harvest, the grapes from each separate vineyard block – which may be as small as an acre or two – are vinified separately to retain their unique flavors. Elegant sailboat labels on all of our wines commemorate America’s proud maritime heritage. Over the years, scores of original paintings have been commissioned to celebrate our love and passion for sailing. In September 2007, we introduced a new proprietary blend called The Mariner. This traditional Meritage blend has redefined the concept of blending at Dry Creek Vineyard.
