Looking Good on the Links at
Bodega Harbour
Sonoma Coast Appellation
Reminiscent of a true Scottish seaside links course, Bodega
Harbour Golf Links has all the challenges of a blustery sea-side
setting: rolling greens, windy treeless landscape, marshes and
native coastal rough, and (of course) unparalleled views.
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. there are 58 deep pot bunkers
on the first nine (designed first) and 38 on the back side (added
later). Using the rolling hillsides, multi-level greens and prevailing
winds off the ocean, this course has some unique and interesting
challenges.
Temperatures are frequently cool to cold, so make sure that
you either layer or bring warm clothes – even in the summer.
Allow yourself the opportunity to play once to get the lay of
the land, and a second time to be more competitive. The rolling
landscape obscures both obstacles and goals and your first game
on this course will provide you some surprises. Allow plenty
of time for play as well; some areas where no golf carts are
allowed can bottle neck. Average game time could easily be four
and a half hours.
A 4 Star Golf Digest “Places to Play” award winner, Bodega Harbour
is annually rated as one of Northern California's top ten courses
by American Express' Departures Magazine in their ranking of
California's 25 most challenging courses. They have also named
them 11 on the California list.
